Older Driver Services
Concerned about your own, or an older relatives driving? Want to understand how medical conditions can affect driving? Need some tuition to safely use roads that have changed over time?
We have a service for you.
All our older driver services are delivered by qualified driving instructors with experience in DVLA Fitness-to-Drive assessments.

Informal In-car Driving Assessments
A closer-to-home alternative to Fitness-to-Drive assessments.
An Ascentia Driver Training driving assessment takes place in one of our dual controlled training and assessment vehicles to ensure safety. Both manual and automatic vehicles are available.
Assessments consist of a pre-drive discussion, a familiarisation drive to get used to the vehicle and an assessment on various road types.
Following your assessment we can make a recommendation on driving safety, potential for retraining or if it may be time to retire from driving.

Upskilling / Refresher Training
Refresher training for older drivers brings the benefits of the understanding of modern road types that may not have been taught in previous instruction.
We can also help you get the most out of modern cars including advanced safety and driver aid technologies ensuring that you stay safe on the road with technological advances.

Fitness-To-Drive Assessment Preparation
If you have an upcoming fitness-to-drive assessment we can help you prepare. Ascentia Driver Training is founded by former fitness-to-drive assessors and as such we have a unique knowledge of the exact standard that is required. We can help you ensure that you're driving to that standard, without over instruction or treating you like a learner driver.
We will also offer advice if we feel that it may be time to stop driving, and assist you with the next steps should you decide to retire from driving prior to your formal assessment.
If you have concerns about an older relative's driving, or that of a friend, we can offer you advice and information on how to approach this difficult topic and, where we are given permission, can discuss your relative's driving or informal assessment outcome with you.
We can offer advice on medical conditions that can affect driving safety and when is the right time to request a formal fitness-to-drive assessment through a medical professional.
We are also preparing online and in-person information sessions containing a wealth of information about licence requirements, medical conditions, fitness-to-drive assessment information and more.
